Can Lung Caner be Treated?

Do you know? In India, lung cancer constitutes 6.9% of all new cancer cases!

This November is ‘Lung Cancer Awareness Month’, together let’s raise awareness about lung cancer.
There are two main types of lung cancer:
• Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC):
Non-small cell lung cancer is the most common type of lung cancer. It accounts for nearly nine out of every 10 cases and usually grows at a slower rate.
Most often, it develops slowly and causes few or no symptoms until it has advanced.
• Small cell lung cancer (SCLC):
This often starts in the bronchi, then quickly grows and spread to other parts of the body, including the lymph nodes.
This type of lung cancer represents fewer than 20 percent of lung cancers and is typically caused by tobacco smoking.
Different treatment options are suitable for different types of lung cancer and other factors including the stage of the tumor, location, age of the patient and the medical history also affect the type of treatment.

Risk Factors of Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide.

In addition to cigarettes, cigar and pipe smoking are also linked to lung cancer. The more you smoke and the longer you smoke, the bigger your chance of developing lung cancer.
Moreover, you don’t have to be a smoker to be affected. Breathing in other people’s smoke increases the risk of lung cancer.
When you inhale tobacco smoke, the mixture of chemicals is delivered directly to your lungs, where it immediately starts causing damage.
The lungs can usually repair damage at first, but the continued effect on lung tissue becomes harder to manage. That’s when damaged cells can mutate and grow out of control.
